Meelis holds the position of the Deputy Executive Director in BONUS EEIG since August 2018. He is responsible of preparing overall reporting of the BONUS programme activities, implementing the Steering Committee decisions and administrative management tasks of BONUS EEIG as well as the monitoring and following up the BONUS funded projects.
joined the BONUS Secretariat in September 2012 as the programme officer. In
this role, he was responsible for ensuring smooth running of the BONUS calls
and projects’ management. His tasks included preparation of call documents,
HelpDesk service for applicants and organisation of proposal evaluations, and holistic
monitoring of the funded projects’ implementation.
Meelis received his PhD in Food Physics from the Ehime Daigaku, Japan in 1998. He has worked in the Tallinn Polytechnic Institute (now the Tallinn University of Technology) in several positions, most recently as a docent. In 1999-2012 he worked in the Estonian Science Foundation (now the Estonian Research Council) as a member of the Executive Board and later as a counselor. Beside other duties he was supervising the implementation and improvement of the Estonian individual research grant scheme as well as facilitating international research cooperation within the Estonian Science Foundation.
Meelis has represented the Estonian Science Foundation in several ERA-NET projects (BIODIVERSA, NORFACE, EUROPOLAR, ERA-NET RUS etc) and acted as the contact person for the European Science Foundation and the Science Europe. He has been also the Estonian representative in Programme Committees of EU FP5 (QoL), FP6 (Food) and FP7 (KBBE). With BONUS activities Meelis has been involved since 2003 – in ERA-NET, ERA-NET+ and then in the BONUS EEIG.
