The BONUS Secretariat (EEIG) was established in April 2007 to serve as the dedicated legal structure for the implementation of the BONUS programme. First countries to join were Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Lithuania and Estonia, which were soon followed by Poland and Latvia. Germany joined in December 2007. Negotiations with Russia are ongoing.


The BONUS Secretariat (EEIG) is funded by the member fees and the Finnish Ministry of Education.


The highest decision-making body is the BONUS Steering Committee that convenes approximately three times a year. Each member has its representative in the Steering Committee which decides on the budget and strategic activities. The chairmanship is rotating and changes 1 July of each year. The current chair is Director Laura Raaska from Finland (1.7.2010-30.6.2011).
