BONUS+ CALL

BONUS EEIG, representing altogether 10 research funding organisations from all nine Baltic Sea states (Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russian Federation and Sweden), opened a call for multilateral research projects within the framework of the BONUS-169 Science Plan on 17 September 2007. Total amount of funding by BONUS EEIG for this call is 22.4 M€, consisting of allocations by national funding agencies and FP7 ERA-NET+ funding by the European Commission.

The deadline for BONUS+ Letters of Intent was 28 December 2007. Submission of the Proposals was done electronically by using the Electronic Proposal Submission System for BONUS+ Call.

The BONUS EEIG Secretariat received altogether 149 Letters of Intent from 19 different countries. The total of applied funding amounted to ca. 190 M€ from 928 different participants. All eligible Letters of Intent were evaluated by independent experts. Based on the ratings and comments given by the evaluators, the BONUS EEIG Steering Committee decided in its meeting on 12 March 2008, to invite 55 of the proposers to submit a Full Proposal.

The deadline for submitting the Full Proposals was 14 April 2008. All 55 invited proposers submitted their Full Proposal, the total applied funding being over 81 M€. All the Full Proposals were sent for evaluation to an International Panel.

Based on the evaluation of the scientific excellence, quality of implementation, foreseen impact and relevance of the project to the management of the Baltic Sea, altogether 16 projects were decided to be funded.

BONUS+ Call was the first one launched within the Joint Baltic Sea research and development programme BONUS 2010-2016.

Two reports give a full picture on how the process of the Call was carried out. The first one was prepared by an independent expert, Dr. Rudolf Novak, and the other by the BONUS EEIG Secretariat.
